MAS-D-TEC is a portable device that measures electrical milk conductivity with a small sample of milk directly collected from the cows's udder. The electrical milk conductivity gives useful information about mastitis development. It helps farmers to identify subclinical mastitis which would not show any visible signs otherwise.

MAS-D-TEC has been developed in the US where studies have shown that mastitis can cause significant money loss, i.e. a few thousands dollars yearly, for average-sized heards (120-150 dairy cows).

How to use MAS-D-TEC

Remove the first streams of milk and place the device under the teat of the quarter to be checked.
Take 1 or 2 streams of milk into the upper part of MAS-D-TEC.
Wait a few seconds for the LED to be lit.
Read the result: LED in the White area: no concern. LED in the RED area: mastitis suspicion.
Repeat the previous steps with the next quarter to be controlled.

Readings:

They can rank from 0 to 9 according the LED display:
from 0-5: acceptable values
from 6-8: subclinical mastitis
9: the milk should be discarded from the tanks.

Rapid:
Users can get a reliable milk quality assessment for one given cow in less than 10 seconds.
