MOBILE FEEDER CLEANING :
KiwiKit Comment: Cleaning is important and the process is simple and worth the small amount of time needed to complete. The following is the recommendation from the manufacturers Stallion.
Gravity Manifold feeders ( MG series)
Good hygiene is essential in raising healthy calves. Stallions design ensures cleaning is EASY and THOROUGH when instructions are followed.
Method 1: Use hose connections at top of tank. By turning tank outlet valves OFF water will flow through backwash tubes and pressurise manifolds creating a FLUSH spray out through teats. Leave each manifold (front & rear) rinsing for 5minutes or so until water runs clear.
Similarly Tank Flush is activated by attaching hose to middle connection. Drain tank using ball valve at rear.
Method 2 :Bucket into tank, or run a hose, using hot water, 7 to 10 litres mixing in an appropriate detergent. Brush round tank interior, or agitate by moving trailer back and forth. Open valves to allow solution to circulate to manifolds, empty by removal of teat. Run water tank flush (middle connection) to thoroughly rinse out detergent solution. Empty via manifolds.
Method 3: Rinse Tank inner with “high pressure” shed hose, empty via rear ball valve. Remove Teat at each end of front then rear manifold flush each with “high pressure” hose until water is clear.
ALL TEATS should be removed and bucket soaked in hot water with detergent if they show signs of ‘clogging’
It is BEST PRACTICE to carry out a rinse, using one of these methods, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE after use. An empty feeder left unclean will compound milk stain build up.
Open Trough feeders (OT and MF series)
These may be cleaned using “high pressure” hose or “hot wash”
They are fitted with hose connection Tank Flush.(see last paragraph Method 1 above)
Open trough type feeders need to be covered when not in use. Cover sets are available as an optional extra (Refer Stallion Catalogue)
AT END OF SEASON….. we recommend removal of all teats from all feeders store them in dark cool place Store mobile feeder under cover for longer life.
