An annoying job in the parlour made easy!
The Shoof Power Tail Trimmer is purpose designed and built specifically for the horrible job of trimming cows tails. Invented in New Zealand, this trimmer is kind to cows and dairy farmer, quick in use, trimming the hair in seconds.
Kiwikit Tail Trimmer by Shoof
Tail Trimmer Allows Farmer To Do More Than 700 Cow’s Tails In A Single Milking!
YOU, too, can now make this annoying job in the milk parlour much easier and save time. Imagine doing the trimming easily and quickly during milking.
For years, tail docking was thought to improve health and safety for people milking diary cows by removing problems caused by the pathogens on dirty tails. While the amputation of a section of the tail - tail docking – was thought to reduce the potential for leptospirosis in milking personnel, along with reducing mastitis, improving milk hygiene and helping with udder cleanliness, these supposed benefits haven’t been proven by scientific research, all evidence is purely anecdotal, according to the editor of the Dairy Herd Management, an industry journal in America. Research has shown that this type of mutilation can cause serious animal welfare problems, including considerable pain to the cows, reduced capacity for the cows using their tails, to do their own fly control and can even cause the cow long term nerve damage.
There is a better way of dealing all of those problems – tail trimming. The first really simple solution for dealing with dirty cow tails.
Although the process of tail docking was originally developed in New Zealand in the early 1900’s, New Zealanders generally do not use tail docking any more because they’ve found that it causes more trouble than its worth. A recent survey of Australian dairy famers showed that those still using the procedure has fallen to 10%. Tail docking has also been banned in several European countries.
Now another invention from New Zealand, the Shoof Power Tail Trimmer is purpose built and specifically designed for everyone’s least favourite job of trimming cows tails.
This trimmer removes the hair at the end of the tail or as far up as is necessary and it is kind to the cows and the dairy farmer, quick to use and capable of trimming the tail hair in 3-4 seconds.
A dairy farmer from New Zealand says tail trimming is “a piece of cake”. And for someone with a herd of 1000+ cows, that’s saying something!
The way it works: the cylindrical cutting operation is smooth and fast, taking only 3 or 4 seconds to run up the tail. Even dirty dag-ends feed smoothly over the trimmer. You don’t have to pre-cut the switch either.
When attached to the operator’s drill, the cow’s tail is fed into the trimming device and, while holding the tail at the tip, the trimmer is run up as high as required.
Proven through extensive trials in New Zealand, the Shoof Power Tail Trimmer can be powered by any standard power drill - works great with a cordless drill. (Please note - drill is not supplied with trimmer).
The Shoof Power Tail Trimmer
- Uses a simple chuck attachment for any quality power drill of at least 14 volts - preferably two speeds, lower powered drills are usually not adequate.
- Gear oil is introduced through an external lubrication point at the start of use and after 50-100 tails.
- It has an adjustable cutter tension.
- Replacement blade sets are available.
- A neck strap can be used to allow hands-free operation.
Make dealing with dirty tails a thing of the past for you and your milking parlour staff.
